NextGenPCF research results reported at CLEO 2008, San Jose.
Some of the research results from the NextGenPCF project were reported as an Invited Talk at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics 2008 in San Jose. CLEO is one of the most important meetings in the annual optics and photonics calendar. The work was reported in a special symposium dedicated to advances in hollow-core photonic bandgap fibres.

28 May 2008 - Report and slides from Photonics Europe 2008, Strasbourg.
The NextGenPCF research results were presented in two special sessions at the SPIE Photonics Europe meeting held in Strasbourg held in April. The NextGenPCF sessions were held within the meeting 6990 "Photonic Crystal Fibers" chaired by Kyriacos Kalli and Waclaw Urbanzyuk. Seven papers from within the consortium were presented, including an overview of the project, and the sessions were well attended by over 80 people.

17 January 2008 - Better photonic bandgap fibers!
A paper published this week in the online journal Optics Express describes how hollow-core photonic bandgap fibres with broader bandwidth and lower dispersion than ever before have been fabricated in the CPPM, using a modified fabrication process. The fabrication process also makes it possible to fabricate these fibres in a single day, rather than the weeks previously required. The paper is published jointly with the Optoelectronics Research Centre in Southampton.

NextGenPCF researchers from USTL and Draka Comteq have reported on a Raman laser made from a grating-free highly nonlinear photonic crystal fiber.

European Training Day in Photonic Crystal Fibres.
We announce a Training Day for students and junior researchers interested in photonic crystal fibres. The Day will be held on 22nd January 2008 on the USTL campus at Lille. The programme consists of a series of talks by leading experts on both fundamental and applied aspects of photonic crystal fibres, and also includes a laboratory tour of some of the relevant facilities at USTL. The Training Day is open to young researchers from throughout Europe, but those intending to attend are asked to please contact the organisers in advance. The "Photonics Europe 2008" meeting to be held in Strasbourg (7-11 April 2008) will contain a special session “NextGenPCF”, planned as part of the conference EPE 104 “Photonic Crystal Fibres”. The Conference Charis are Kyriacos Kalli and Waclaw Urbanczyk, and the special session will be coordinated by Jonathan Knight and Hartmut Bartelt from NextGenPCF.
